Bailey has the sweetest heart..really, she does..I mean, she has her moments, but overall, she is one sweet little girl..like I mentioned before, we have been working on our cards for Kate..and she worked so hard on it to make it perfect..she took so much time picking out the stickers she added, skipping over certain animals because "they might scare Kate" (bears, lions, lol)...drawing little pictures..and she ends all her prayers with "and I hope Kate gets better"...so, our cards are about ready to go in the mail..here's Bailey with hers..she's so proud of it..
Another thing she does that gets me is if she throws a coin into a fountain or blows out her candles and makes a wish..she always tells me later "do you know what I wished for Mommy? For Great Grandpa to come back to this earth, and Belle (our dog that died) and Biff (my mom's dog that died) too...and she totally absorbs the things she learns in Sunday school..she brings things up about Jesus all the time..and then she'll declare "I'm not afraid of _____ (whatever she is taking about), do you know why?" "Cause God is always with us"..something she learned at VBS...just always doing things like that..
I'm not a big card maker, but it was fun..I used a sketch (that's sad when you have to use a sketch for a card, isn't it? lol) from the got sketch? blog..there's lots of glitter on there that you can't see..
I'm including a picture of Bailey in hers so Kate can put a face with a name..and in mine I printed off a picture of our family and used Photoshop to type "The Crawfords are praying for Kate in Georgia" so that they can put faces with us too..they are going to be getting cards from all over the world..isn't that cool?
So, gotta get these all packed up and ready to go..
She started pre K yesterday and had a great first day! She just happily goes right in..when I picked her up, her teacher said she had been her "helper" all day..imagine that? lol..
We had orientation last Friday, so snapped a few pics in her class..they had to cover their name with these little bumble bee stickers (bees are their class symbol), and of course, being the craftly girl she is, she did it perfectly..wish I had an after picture..that time in the scrapbook room with Mommy is paying off..
and then remember the little girl Kate that I posted the video about that has a brain tumor? Well, there is a card drive going on to collect handmade cards to give to her and her family, so we've been working on our cards too..Bailey has been pumped about this..and she ends all her prayers with "and I hope Kate gets better"..and Chaz asks if Kate is better all the time too..it's hard explaining sickness like that to kids..
Ok, my child is getting restless for some play time, so I need to get my booty in gear..but first, here's a layout I just finished up..cut the title and the flower with my Cricut and that neat background behind the title with my Silhouette..this is when we had our scrapbooking retreat in May..gearing up for our next one in October..and this is based on a sketch from here..lots of good sketches here..they usually post one every Friday..
I had a photo session with my friend Michelle's family and her niece and two nephews were here from Kentucky, so they were in the pictures too..There were some cute girls there, but holy cow, take a look at these two future heartbreakers!
This dude is going into the 4th grade, I believe? He's going to have to be fighting the girls off, if he isn't already..and he was a sweetie too!
and then his little brother..I see a little twinkle in his eyes, don't you? He is 3 years old and just too cute!
and with them having the matching Chuck Taylor's, how could I resist taking a shot like this?
I have to say, I love photographing boys!! :)
Bailey and I hit up a thrift store in the area called The Clothes Less Traveled (funny name)..I haven't been there since they moved locations, but this place was pretty big..Bailey thought it was the best place ever, for some reason..and then after I dropped the kids at the Grandparents (I have to work tomorrow), I hit a little store in Senoia called Second Hand Sams, which is more of a consignment store, but they have new stuff too..cute pocketbooks and jewelry, but also they do clothing consignment..I picked up a cute little beaded necklace there..I have a "thang" for beaded necklaces..as my friends can testify..lol
Here are our treasures...
The first picture is what I found at the thrift store..a brand new everyday kind of shirt, a hot pair of animal print shoes that are going to rock with some black dress pants or jeans (Bellini brand, aren't those expensive?)..got the shoes for $2 (and don't gag Elizabeth..I cleaned them thoroughly with Clorox wipes and they don't smell), got the shirt for $2, and that wire thing in the back (forgive the horrible shadows..flash on the camera)? Well, I've always had an issue with how to display my Christmas cards..this is my solution..I'm going to paint it either black or rust it up..and it was $2...Got that little like new Gap prairie type skirt at Second Hand Sams for Bailey, which will be so cute with some cable knit tights. brown mary janes, and a sweater or something..LOVE..
and then, hold your breath for these next two things..I spotted the pattern from across the room and wondered to myself, is that a Lilly Pulitzer print? Ummm, YES, two pair of "Lilly" capris for Bailey for next year cause they are size 6..each pair were, get this, $2...HOLLA!
How cute will these be with a little white tank top or something? Umm, CUTE! and her big pink bow in her hair?
and of course, I let Bailey pick something out and heaven forbid, what did she pick? ANOTHER stuffed animal dog..but it was like new and $1 and she is in love with it..
Our house is turning into a dog pound of stuffed dogs..she has a thing for stuffed dogs!
Anyways, it was a fun and productive day, wouldn't you say?..I may be addicted again..off to attempt my first all digital layout, just 'cause..
My Mom and I used to be hard core antique store shoppers...we couldn't pass one up, but now, our houses are full and decorated, so there's no where to put anything else..and my style has changed just a bit to a little less cluttered..and then scrapbooking came along, and a new obsession started..plus having kids to drag with you puts a damper on things too...
But we used to have this place in Atlanta, The Lakewood Antique Mart, that happened the second weekend of every month..the place used to be the old Lakewood Fairgrounds, where my parents went to hang out back in the 70's, when they were hippie teenagers..lol..in fact, there's a whole story of how my dad talked my mom into getting on a huge ferris wheel there when she was pregnant with me (and I'll just leave it at that because it ended in a huge fight between them..lol)..I grew to love the antique mart through going with my Grandpa, who restored old antique radios for a couple that had a booth out there for years..wish I had a picture of that (but I DO have several of his old radios in my house..some of my most treasured belongings), but anyways, over the years, it became our FAVORITE place to go to dig around and find treasures..you could find just about ANYTHING there..tons of stuff in my house is from there..one of a kind stuff..old, distressed, rusted, metal, distressed wood..uggh, loved every bit of it..and then when Janet and I became friends, it became our monthly excursion..well, sadly, a few years ago, they decided to get rid of that piece of history and build condos there..and break the hearts of so many women in Atlanta and Georgia..since then, there is no where that ever will compare to the magic of that place..I tell my friend Joann about it all the time like some old lady, cause she never got to experience Lakewood, and she would have DUG it...
Here are a few precious pictures my Mom and I took on some of our trips..I wasn't able to go the last month it was open, which bummed me out BIG time cause I wanted to take tons of pictures of details of the buildings, some of the old weird people that were staples out there that had booths, the awesome CORNDOGS that we ate everytime..the only time I would ever really eat corndogs, etc..but it didn't happen, so this is all I have..
My summertime "rummaging" uniform..cause it would get HOT as h*ll out there in the summertime..and yes, I was way skinnier back then..These pics are from '04 and '05..
I mean, where else could you find that many vintage watering cans in one place????
or good distressed old buckets?
We would leave, tired, worn out, and load up our trunks with all kinds of good stuff..sometimes trying to figure out how the heck we were going to fit something into our car..and then sometimes, having to come back the next day with our men and a truck to load up a piece of furniture that wouldn't fit in our cars..ahhh, good times, good memories..
So, what got me going on this rant? Well, I've come across some blogs that focus on finding junk and redoing things like these:
I got several of these links from Cynthia's blog.
and they've got me wanting to go digging around some thrift stores..
and I go way back with thrift stores too..my grandfather, once again, instilled that love too, he was the KING of thrift stores..and it used to be a fun thing my grandparents and I did when I was little..my Grandpa could fix ANYTHING and was very "thrifty"..and he got some deals there..and he used to buy me all kinds of books from there..he was also, along with my Mom, one of the ones that instilled a love for reading in me..
So, today, I think Bailey and I are going to go hit a few thrift stores in the area..and maybe I'll pass the love of "rummaging" on to her...
And this post almost pushed me over the edge..
A few reasons I like digital:
1. The "undo" button
2. Being able to work on a layout right here on my laptop whenever/wherever.
3.Being able to resize/recolor elements to exactly match my photos.
5. Being able to shop online and download my goodies right then and there.
6. The time it could save, as noted above in the article I linked to.
Hmmm, what else? Any of my digital friends have anything to add?
The only thing I worry about is the pages looking "real"..I don't care for pages (for me personally) that look too "digital" and all flourished up..I want them to blend in with my regular style, but I believe Ali Edwards and Ashley Gailey have proven to me that that can be done...
and wanted a piece of candy..lol..so, before church, we had some time to burn..can you believe that? So I made a bargain and snapped a few pictures..(and my in laws found out these were on Facebook from their neighbor across the street, who I went to high school with, so I got in trouble for not sharing them here--thanks Staci!)...
Geez, not sure why I haven't blogged..I'm blaming it on Facebook..I mean, on there, you can actually carry on conversations with people..you know, a two way conversation..lol..but glad to know someone cared and worried about me (thanks Karin!)...
Anyways, I never shared the pictures from Chaz's football league's Spirit Day, so here goes (I shared them on Facebook way back)..lol...
Chaz's team had "We Rock" as their theme..even had the song "We Will Rock You" blasting..we were the only team with music, thank you very much..and it was like the hottest day of the summer last Saturday..I felt like I was going to burst into flames at any minute..MISERABLE..but then again, I'm a heat wimp..anyhoo..
Coach Brett even got into the spirit and let Amy paint his hair too..I really wanted to paint a blue streak in mine but we left the house in such a rush, it just didn't happen..
My friend Amy and Chaz's new big bud, Gabe..
Our team sold Gatorade..and this was our Gatorade girl..pretty sly of us to put such a cute little girl out there to attact attention, huh? Let me just give you a word of advice:if you ever have to sell drinks at anything, DO GATORADE..we were the only ones selling it..and it sold out..we had to send a Mom out to get more..we sold them for $1 and made $160 for our team on it..I had participated in a spirit day for my friend Laura's football team one year and they sold it, so I was like WE MUST SELL GATORADE..it's a hit and those boys CANNOT RESIST IT ..especially with it being 100 degrees outside..
The "fam" showed up to support and to my delight, my parents had dressed in Stallion colors..!
This is Amy's #3 (she refers to her kids by numbers..lol)..she just turned one and she's adorable, so had to throw a pic of her in here.."Claire"...Look at that juicy thigh..I know you want to just pinch it..don't you wish people said that about our thighs now? Dern..
Everyone on the floats threw candy..it was crazy..we almost had our eye put out several times and a few kids running out after candy almost got plowed over by big trucks pulling floats, but Bailey was ALL OVER IT..she kept looking back at me and screaming "it's like Halloween Mommy!!!"..she loves her some candy..you could feel all the Moms moaning around the area..thinking what the h*ll am I going to do with all this candy?
Well, and then we had purchased these "punch cards" for all the rides..Amy and I drug around three boys..my parents had taken Bailey off to do her thing..thank goodness..first off..horseback rides..cool..until later, one of the horses got ticked off and butted and a little girl fell off..but it was all good, they took a break and got back to walking in circles with bratty kids on their backs..(My mom has all of the pics of Bailey doing stuff..didn't want to look biased here)..
The dunking booth..Chaz got so close, yet so far..(insert the PacMan dying sound here)..it was so dang hot, I almost volunteered to put my big booty up there..and you know how I am about my makeup and hair..THAT'S how hot it was..
Our team ran this horrible thing of a ride..the "Sit and Spin"..(insert vomiting noises here)..ughh..but the kids LOVED it..
LOVE this next picture..I just like the composition of it..my 28-135 lens rocks in good lighting..they were spinning FAST, so I set my camera to action mode and followed Chaz and snapped..look how clear they turned out?
Well, then the "littles" (Bailey and Amy's #2) wanted to ride, and Amy and I were like "I'm not sure you guys are big enough to pump that thing or fit in those seats"..and then my parents pipe in and inform me that Bailey has already ridden it like 4 times..silly me..so, off we sent them..cause, DUDE, we were ready for their cards to be done and go home to air conditioning!
Bailey knew the drill...pump, pump, pump...HANDS UP..and spin until you puke..don't worry, Jacob, Bailey's got it for you..lol..
UGGGH, he had another punch left on his card..dang it..
Wait, my friend Laura and her girl/cheerleader..poor Laura, she was just going to work their booth when we were leaving..
....and then we went home and collapsed..well, Brad and the kids went swimming and I piddled around the house and then we all went out to pizza that night..do you want to know how dehydrated I was? I didn't even order a beer with my pizza ..I had like a gallon of sweet tea instead..NOw, you know something was wrong with that picture..
OK, it's Friday evening..Chaz is actually racing BMX tomorrow for the first time in almost a month tomorrow (he's been absorbed in football)..he just got back from practicing at the track..
I had a most delightful photo shoot on Tuesday evening I need to edit and share..
I need to brag on my husband a bit cause he has been working overtime for three days and still coming home happy after some obnoxious hours and taking Chaz to football practice and helping out on the field (all in good spirit..dude,I would be witch if I were working those hours), and just got back from taking him to the BMX track to practice..
and then on the phone today, he says he feels guilty cause he's always rushing out the door with Chaz and he feels like he needs to do something with Bailey..well, we went for a back to school haircut and bought some way cute clothes and headbands..so tonight she's modeling them for him..I may have to take pictures..she lOVES to do that for her Daddy..and I got some major deals..SCORE
OK, got to go fix dinner..and that 's a whole 'nother story with football practice I'll have to share..
AND my friend Amy and I are embarking on a new endeavor that I can't share right now, but maybe in a month or so..we'll see.. ha
Here are a few layouts that I finally finished up..both based on a sketch or template..and one of course with a Picasa collage..
