When Chaz was born, our friend Monica gave him this book. We still read it today..it's got the best message, and I love the artwork in it! Just thought I'd pass it along..Bailey and I just finished reading it. Great gift idea too! Obviously cause Chaz was born 7 1/2 years ago, and we still read it!
Saturday, I took Bailey to her BFF's 6th birthday party..she had asked me almost every day for three weeks if it was time for Elizabeth's party...They were told to bring their dolls with them to a tea party. We don't do the American Girl doll thing because frankly, Bailey doesn't really play with dolls..except for "Baby", so Baby went with her in new pajamas that Mimi got for her (we couldn't find any dresses to fit her anywhere?)...anyways, because I had really no where to go or anything else to do and because I love Elizabeth's Mom as much as Bailey loves Elizabeth, I stuck around too and took pictures..Moms, you know how hard it is to run a party AND try to take pictures, so thought I would take that task off her hands and because, well, it's what I do..lol..
I wanted to give you a peek of the event..it was so cute!
First off, the details..and note that this woman has four children under the age of 6! (They just adopted the cutest little boy from Ethiopia..he's been home about a month..and I get to photograph him next month!!)
Wendy got these adorable antique tea cup/snack trays from etsy.com...
Bailey + Baby = Love!
They were so well behaved at the table..seriously!
Good to the last drop!
The gift opening mob scene..I had to keep reminding Bailey that she was NOT the party coordinator and Elizabeth can open her gifts in the order SHE wants..lol..she has control issues..no idea where she gets that from..We got E a pretend cash register which I kept debating about, but turns out, it was one of her favorite gifts..I used to love to pretend I worked a grocery store when I was little? weird..
and then, to Bailey's delight, Ms Wendy had a craft for them to do..they got to decorate a hat for them and a little one for their dolls..
Unfortunately, E announced "I don't like to do crafts!"...gasp! To her mother's dismay! ..In the end, it was Wendy and I in the kitchen gluing everyone's hats together while they ran off to play..lol..it was pretty funny..
The girls had a great time!
Now, I must pry my bootie off this chair and get outside and exercise..
Let's talk toy storage, shall we? See, I'm the type of girl that likes everything stored neatly away when not being played with. Even though my kids have never had a TON of toys, they have toys and stuff..For several years, I tried the plastic containers with the white tops neatly sorted and in their closets..however, Chaz is about over toys, except for Nerf guns, books, and some cars..plus, he has sports equipment...so sorting his stuff was pretty easy..I just got tired of all those containers and lots of time, if things are put away in those containers, he forgets that he what he has, and they sit in his closet not being played with..we just redecorated his room (which I will post pictures of once we get the last few little things for his wall), and there was this long wall that needed something on it..one thing he had requested was some hooks where he could hang his beloved baseball caps..my friend Patti, bless her dear heart, came out of the woodworks with the most perfect Pottery Barn baseball bat hook that she had been saving to give to someone who would love it..her son's room had be redone recently too..can I just tell you that that piece was the PERFECT thing for the room? LOVE IT! but that left the need for something under the long hook..I didn't want to get book shelves because I know better..it would have ended up all cluttered up and dusty..I wanted his room to be nice and clean..so to the internet I went in search of something ..of course Pottery Barn Kids always inspires me, however their prices DON'T..I decided I wanted something for storage for his stuff that he has left, but it had to be neat looking, affordable, and kind of fit in with the sports theme..
One day I was in Target and found myself in the closet organization section ..I came across the "Cubeical" stuff by ClosetMaid and thought "hmmmmmmm...now THIS may work"...I got home, got out the measuring tape, emailed Brad to get his opinion..and later hit Target and picked this up...
They have all kinds of colors of bins AND the locker like bins..HAPPY!!!!! BAILEY organized all his stuff into categories and now? Nice, neat, easy storage..granted the shelf part is particle board, but for what we need it for, it's perfect..once you see the whole room, you'll see how well it blends with his other stuff..
and then I got to pondering Bailey's room..all her toys were stored in the bottom of her closet and she hardly every played with them..sooooooo, I pondered things like basket chests or a toy box, but really, I couldn't figure out where to put it..and then I was like "Heather, what about getting rid of that curio cabinet between her two closets cause really, it is serving NO purpose except to hold a bunch of cute stuff left over from our old house, etc...what if I get Bailey one of these shelves TOO?"...and the angels sang...PLUS all that stuff was on sale and I took the receipt back from all of Chaz's stuff and got a price adjustment!
And now she has her stuff all sorted and organized, and Momma is happy too..nice and neat..I like the blend of the clean lines with the more vintage stuff in her room..
Before: the cabinet serving no purpose (which, by the way, is now sitting in my entrance way..does anyone want it? otherwise, it's getting donated)
and the cluttered closet: (see all the toys on the floor?)
My hope is that maybe this may work for someone else too!
Can I get an AMEN?
I had this idea that once the kids were in school, I'd be back to blogging regularly..hmmm..not sure what happened?
It seems like the person I scrapbook the most lately is Bailey..lol..she is the one that is around the most and most open to pictures I guess..but next will be a layout of Chaz..I've got the pictures all printed and everything..I need to balance things out a bit..
This journaling came straight from my blog post...I've been using my blog as my resource for journaling a lot lately..
This was her softball team's end of season party..she was so darn proud of her first trophy!
Ok, got to meet the kid's when they get off the bus! I'll be back hopefully tomorrow with my solution to toy storage that has made me very happy!
The RED tomato...
If you remember this post, you'll understand how important this tomato is..lol
Sorry it's been so quiet around here on this old blog..we're in the midst of a "settling in" phase..kids getting settled into school (which is going great), me adjusting to all of this free time (seriously, this is the second week and I'm getting a tad bored), gearing up for Fall baseball and softball, making some changes around the house, Brad working a LOT of overtime at work, selling some things (oh yes, the pop up camper is HISTORY..and so is Chaz's drum set that he hardly ever played that was taking up lots of room in our bonus room)..etc
I'm going to be joining a Bible study next week called "Mom to Mom" that I've been wanting to join for like two years, but it met on Thursdays, which is when I used to work at the hospital..but my schedule has changed so I'm finally able to join!! So many girls I know go to this and it has really made an impact on their lives, so I'm so excited about it..and excited my friend Janet will be joining me too!
...and I've been working a bit on myself..bodywise..this past month I lost 6 pounds..and I am so excited to see the scale finally move in a different direction..we shall see..I'm not going to get all cocky ...but it's time..OH, it's time!
I'm finding myself wanting to "freshen up" a lot of things around the house and to clean out nooks and crannies that have needed it for some time..and getting rid of just clutter and things that need to be purged..
Scrapbooking has found it's way back into my daily routine, which I'm happy for..getting some layouts done..got a few to share in the next day or so..
Starting to book families for photo sessions for Fall...
Getting to "do lunch" with friends now and catch up...went to lunch with my friend Wendy today and had great conversation..Girlfriends are so important and it's so nice to talk and vent and realize that we all have our struggles and stuff...
Guess that's it for now..going to print some pictures to scrap now..
I should say "two horribly HOT days of wild adventures"..lol..the week before last, we went down to Valdosta for two days and went to Wild Adventures..the first day we did the amusement park and the second day we did the water park...We had a really good time together as a family..Lots of pictures:
Apparently it was "off season" or else everyone had gone back to school cause there was hardly anyone there..Brad and I were joking that it was like that scene out of National Lampoon's Vacation when they drive across the country, get to "Wally World" and get this: Marty Moose: Sorry, folks! We're closed for two weeks to clean and repair America's favorite family fun park. Sorry, uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh!
Chihuahuas that can stand on their hands? It was craziness!
and of course Bailey got picked to go up and get jumped over..lol...that's her on the end in the pink tank top..and that's a Rat Terrier sailing over them..we used to have a dog just like that..Loved that dog! Mitzi was awesome!
and this..hee hee
and then we all joined back up and off we went for more rides...
This may look like a dorky ride (and it was), but Bailey had to have an adult ride it with her and I got volunteered..I don't do "spinning rides' anymore..and this one spun around pretty fast..it almost did me in for the day, no joke..hate spinning..
Ya gotta have one of these shots somewhere along the way, right?
I always loved the swings as a kid...
We left exhausted, hot, stinky, starving..and went to Chili's and filled up on some good food..then back to the hotel, and after the boys went swimming, we all hit the sack..
The next day we went back and rode some things over again..
Chaz's favorite rides were the coaster above and this horrible thing called the "Rattler"...
This thing spun and swung all at one time..HIGH...now in my younger years, I would have ridden this right after eating a big ol lunch of nasty amusement park pizza, but these days? Not even on an empty stomach! Bleh!
and then we headed to the water park, but since we were in our bathing suits anyway, I gave in and rode this thing with everyone..(That is Brad and the kids on the bridge after we rode it)..
and can you believe I was ON this boat just a moment before? Only for my kids would I do this..I am the girl that doesn't get her hair wet in the pool..That is all water you see in the background...
and off we went to the water park..I didn't take any more pictures after this cause well, we were in the water..
We love our Buster Brown...He's getting old (he'll be 16 in October!), but he still tries to hang with us..I've been trying to make an effort to get lots of pictures with him..he's kind of hard to photograph though..he is always moving and he can't hear anymore, so any of the "key words" that used to get his attention or get him to perk up don't work anymore...This was one evening out in the backyard when the kids were playing wiffle ball...
Well, now that both kids are in school all day, I have finished up a few layouts that had been laying on my table..cause you know, Chaz said I was going to scrapbook all day while they were at school..I couldn't let him down, now could I?
This layout is based on a sketch from Studio Calico..cause lately, I can't create a layout without some kind of sketch or layout to copy..lol..not totally sure what's up with the color in these two pictures..I really need to start practicing setting a custom white balance or something, but you get the idea..
and with that, I need to go to bed..Night!
